What’s included? This download includes x1 portrait orientation pdf to make an ‘Advent Candle Countdown Calendar’ to count down the December days from the 1st to the 24th. What’s it for? This countdown has been designed to be used for by an individual/group or class to countdown the days to Christmas together. It has been designed to be made by or with an adult - an adult leading the way with what the steps are and a child/learner helping with these as they are able. Who’s it for? This resource has been designed for early years children, pupils in years one and two as well as older students with additional learning needs. An older, able, pupil may be able to make this ‘with’ or ‘for’ a younger learner in a paired activity, working together. Resource Details Everything needed for the finished Advent Candle Countdown Calendar is included on the pdf. There are six main instructions and additional, detailed, information positioned next to the relevant parts to make what to do clearer. The main task is to cut along the red dotted lines to cut the candle shape out and separate the ‘flaps’ which will fold over the image (for each day) to hide it. Numbers are provided to stick onto these flaps (in order from the base of the candle to the top), or these numbers can be written by hand instead - whatever is preferred/easiest. Learners will need a pencil (to write their name), a pair of scissors, a glue stick and a small ball of Blue Tac (the size of a small marble) - this piece of Blue Tac will then be made into x24 teeny tiny balls which are used to secure the flaps closed until it is the date to be opened. Suggestions This pdf will need to be printed onto white card or it won’t be strong enough to stand up by itself. Double sided sticky tape might be a better alternative to secure the candle shape together (instead of using the glue stick).
